SSID jlab_guest - Windows Configuration

** use these instructions starting on February 7, 2011 **

Adding a Wireless Connection for 'jlab_guest'

It is recommended to allow Windows to configure your wireless connection, rather than any third party software. These third party applications often have a difficult time setting up connections with wireless here at Jefferson Lab (JLab).

Windows Vista / 7

  • Click Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage wireless networks -> Add
    • if the network jlab_guest already appears in the list, please remove it
  • Click "Manually create a network profile"
  • In the "Network name" field enter the value jlab_guest
  • In the "Security type" field select WPA2-Personal
  • In the "Encryption type" field select AES
  • In the "Security Key" field enter the passphrase found here
  • Click Next -> Click Close
  • Go back to the Network and Sharing Center box and click "Connect to a network"
  • Verify that you are connected to jlab_guest - if not, select jlab_guest and click Connect
  • If this is the first time your device is connecting to the JLab network, you will be redirected to our registration page when you open a web browser

Windows XP

  • Click Start -> Connect To -> Show All Connections
  • Right-click Wireless Network Connections and select Properties
  • Choose the Wireless Networks tab and click Add...
    • if the network jlab_guest already appears in the list, please remove it
  • In the "Network name (SSID)" field enter the value jlab_guest
  • In the "Network Authentication" field select WPA2-PSK
  • In the "Data Encryption" field select AES
  • Click OK
  • In the "Available networks" windowpane select "View available wireless networks"
  • Select jlab_guest and click Connect (if it is not already attempting to connect)
  • Enter the passphrase found here when prompted
  • If this is the first time your device is connecting to the JLab network, you will be redirected to our registration page when you open a web browser
