Configuring JLab-CUE Windows Machine

The IT Division Help Desk (helpdesk) provides full support for Jefferson Lab (JLab) purchased Windows systems.  We configure all JLab Windows workstation for the JLab Common User Environment (CUE).  Please submit a Computer Center Problem Report (CCPR) for assistance configuring your new system, or to rebuild an existing JLab-CUE system.  This will ensure that your system is configured properly for the CUE.  The helpdesk will take care of backing up any data stored on your current machine, network registration of the new machine, all CUE software installations, and assistance with configuring your email client, calendar client, and printers.  Once the machine is configured for the JLab-CUE, we can take care of transferring your current data to the newly configured machine.

Software Installation

The Computing and Networking Infrastructure (CNI) group provides desktop support for several centrally provided Windows applications.  These applications are provided to meet the day to day computing needs of most individuals at JLab.  Below is a list of the current CUE software available for CUE machines.

  • Microsoft Office Professional
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Mozilla Thunderbird
  • PuTTY secure login client
  • XMing
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Java Runtime Environment (x86 and x64 where appropriate)
  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Adobe Shockwave Player

At this time, the helpdesk manages the installation of the aforementioned software.  In the near future, these applications will be available for installation on JLab-CUE desktops for installation by the end user.

NOTE -- For support on any other, non-CUE software, please contact the author, vendor or supplier for assistance.
