Due to the recent announcement of critical vulnerabilities in nearly all systems built over the last 20 years, the Jefferson Lab IT Division is planning to patch and reboot all of the external login servers tonight: Tuesday, January 9, 2018. The affected systems that will be rebooted include the login servers (,, acclogin) and the public linux systems (jlabl1-5, jlabsl1-2, and publ1-3).

Also, the IT Division has deployed these new patches to all centrally managed Linux systems onsite. If you work on a Linux desktop, please plan on patching and rebooting your system as soon as possible. The IT Division will review all Linux desktop systems and will automatically patch and reboot any un-patched systems later this week.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the IT Division Help Desk.

More information regarding these vulnerabilities and Jefferson Lab's actions to address them will be available in Wednesday's JLab Weekly email. For more general information on the vulnerabilities that are being addressed, see this article in Wired magazine.
