JLab Mac Systems

The IT Division manages Macintosh (Mac) systems purchased with Jefferson Lab (JLab) funds.  For current JLab-owned Macs, please see the matrix below for supported versions of macOS.  If you would like to purchase a JLab-owned Mac, please contact the IT Division Help Desk and we'd be happy to assist you with this purchase.

Key:

No Support  - Computers running this version should be rebuilt
Ending Support  - Support for this version will end on the next Major Version Release
Legacy Support  - No new installs of this version, Computers still running this version have support
Full Support  - Computer Center Offers full support of this version
Beta Support  - Either the Version is only available in Beta Version or is still being evaluated by the Computer Center*

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Installing Unsupported or Beta Versions of future releases of macOS is not permitted on JLab owned machines.
  • Non Intel Based Installations of macOS are not supported. PowerPC based Macs should be replaced.
  • Per Apple Best Practices, we will not install any version of macOS that is earlier than the version that the computer came with.

Configuring a JLab-Owned Mac

Once your Mac has arrived, please drop it off at the at the IT Division Help Desk.  We will then submit a CCPR for in the owner's username and proceed with our standard Common User Environment (CUE) configuration.  Your Mac will be configured to use your JLab user account information and we will install the following software:

  • Microsoft Office 2016
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Firefox
  • Thunderbird
  • Java
  • XQuartz
