How to Access VNC
Windows
- Install the client software on the computer
- RealVNC for Windows
- ssh into login.jlab.org using Putty
- Hostname: login.jlab .org
- Tunnels
- Source port: 590X (replace X with the number initialized on the vncserver)
- Destination: localhost:3396
- Port 3396 needs to be open (choose any open port if not open)
- Add and open
- Enter JLab CUE username and password
- ssh into computer with VNC server
- ssh -L 3396:localhost:590X computername
- Run VNC Viewer
- VNC Server: localhost:590X
- Encryption: Let VNC Server choose
- Enter password set up on the VNC server
- Log into machine using JLab credentials
Mac
- Install the client software on the computer
- RealVNC for Mac
- Using terminal, ssh into login and then the computer that has the VNC server on it
- ssh -L 590X:localhost:3396 janedoe@login.jlab.org
- replace X with the number initialized on the vncserver
- If port 3396 is in use, find open port
- Login using JLab CUE credentials
- ssh -L 3396:localhost:590X computername
- Login using JLab CUE credentials
- ssh -L 590X:localhost:3396 janedoe@login.jlab.org
- Run VNC Viewer
- VNC Server: localhost:590X
- Encryption: Let VNC Server choose
- Enter password set up on the VNC server
- Log into machine using JLab credentials
Linux
- Install the client software on the computer
- RealVNC for Linux
- ssh into login.jlab.org, then ssh into computer with VNC server
- ssh –L 590X:localhost:3396 janedoe@login.jlab.org
- replace X with the number initialized on the vncserver
- If port 3396 is in use, find open port
- ssh –L 3396:localhost:590X computername
- ssh –L 590X:localhost:3396 janedoe@login.jlab.org
- Run VNC Viewer
- VNC Server: localhost:590X
- Encryption: Let VNC Server choose
- Enter password set up on the VNC server
- Log into machine using JLab credentials
