JLAB VRVS Services

The JLab Computer Center provides support for VRVS (Virtual Rooms Videoconferencing System). Information and documentation regarding the installation and configuration for VRVS can be found from the VRVS web pages located at http://www.vrvs.org.

Use of the VRVS client software at JLab uses a proxy service and no longer requires that users submit a request for a static IP address for a connection through our firewall. The VNC (desktop sharing) capabilities however, do require static IPs. This means that if you require VNC services, you will need to request a static IP address.

Before requesting static addresses, users should first submit a request to the JLAB cyber-security team and allow 2-3 days for a vulnerability assessment to be conducted on the target machine. This request can be submitted either by submitting an email request to helpdesk@jlab.org, or by submitting a request via our CCPR request system, containing all pertinent information. Once completed, a static IP can be assigned and the VNC sofware can be configured using the instructions found here.

The client software required for VRVS is available locally for CUE configured Windows NT/2000 systems on L:\VRVS, and on Linux systems under the /apps/vrvs directory.
