Macintosh Mozilla Thunderbird

Configuration

1.  Open Mozilla Thunderbird.  When prompted with the New Account Setup dailog, choose "Email Account" and select Continue.

2. Enter the following information in the next dialog:

3. Choose IMAP as the incoming server type. For the section Incoming Server type mail.jlab.org in the dialog box. Type smtpmail.jlab.org in the dialog box labeled Outgoing Server. Then click Next. [If you are configuring mail on a remote desktop or a laptop computer, use smail.jlab.org and enable SSL for the outgoing mail client.  Also, you will need to manually change the port to 465.]

4. In this next dialog, both username fields should contain your Jlab username. Press Continue.

5.  The Account Name in the next dialog should be your Jlab email address. Press Continue.

5. In the next dialog, confirm that all the information is correct and then click Done.

6.  At this point, Thunderbird will not be able to connect to the mail server yet.  From the Menu bar, select Tools and then Account Settings. Under Server Settings select the radio button that says SSL.  The port number should change to 993. After doing this, click OK.

8. In order for you to connect to the mail server, you will want to click get mail.

9.  The next dialog will prompt you for your password.  Enter your Jlab password and click OK.

DO NOT CLICK THE CHECK BOX TO USE PASSWORD MANAGER TO REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD!!

10.  At this point, Thunderbird should be able to connect to the mail server correctly.  You may have to click the Get Mail button for your subscribed folders and new mail to show up.
