JLAB Dial-Center Services

JLAB Dial-In Services

The Computer Center supports dial in through a Remote Access Server (RAS). The server has a total of 24 incoming lines available for general use. The lines are compatible with all modem speeds, including the V.90 standard for 56K baud modems. They also support ISDN connections.

The RAS validates username/passwords against the Windows Domain. All new users are automatically given a Windows accouts when they request a Unix accout.  The username and initial password are the same on the Windows server as on the Unix machines. If you do not know your Windows password, you can call the HelpDesk at 7155.

The phone number to connect to the RAS is: 256-4000.

Please note that dial-in access to the lab does not put you inside the firewall. You must use the login servers just as you would coming from any off-site or home machines.

Use DNS Servers: (or let the ppp connection set them automatically-- internal jlab servers DNS servers will not work)

The RAS supports standard connections using the built in dial-up networking from Linux, Windows, or Macs.
