Jefferson Lab uses a lab wide calendaring system. All staff are encouraged to use this system to schedule meetings, talks, etc with their colleagues. This system also allows you to reserve certain meeting rooms.
All new users automatically have a calendar account created at the same time their Unix and Windows accounts are created. If you already have an Unix account (i.e. JLABL1), but do not have a calendar account, please click here and fill out the form to request an one.
Your password to use the calendar system is the same as your other CUE (Common User Environment) accounts (Unix and Windows). You change all 3 of these passwords at the same time by using the jpasswd command from any Unix login (i.e. JLABL1 or jlabs1). More information on Jlab's password rules can be found here.
Note: If you experience trouble logging into the Calendar Server after a password change that relates to an "offline agenda", please click here.
Note: All of the new calendar clients listed below have the ability to change just your calendar server password. There is no way for us to disable this option at this time. Please be aware that if you change your password with one of the calendar clients, it will change ONLY your calendar password. At which point your passwords would no longer be synchronized with the rest of CUE. Also note, that the next time you use jpasswd to change your CUE password, your calendar password will be changed again. It is for this reason that we strongly suggest that users refrain from changing their password with the calendar clients.
Calendar clients are the programs you run on your desktop to connect with the calendar server. All of these clients have excellent online help. We strongly encourage users to read them. The following platforms have clients available:
Windows
The windows client is called Corporate Time 6.0. It is available to install on your local PC by clicking on the Start button and navigating through Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add New Programs. Select Corporate Time 6.0, click the Add button, and the client software will install. To set it up to connect to the server, do the following:
- Click on the 'Other' button.
- Click on the 'New' button.
- Type "jcal" into the boxes labeled "Connection Name" and "Server"
- Click on the "lookup" button.
- Click on the "ok" button.
- Highlight the "jcal" in the big white box by clicking on it.
- Click on "Make Default"
- Click on "OK"
The client is now ready for you to put in your name and password and sign on.
Documentation in PDF format for this program is available here.
We also have the Corporate Sync for Palm Pilots and Pocket PCs for Windows. There is no support for installation or configuration of these utilities. Users can download them here: Palm Pilot or Pocket PC.
Web Browser
The web based calendar client is available at: webcal.jlab.org.
Linux
The Linux client is called 'ctime'. If your Linux system is a CUE level 1 or level 2 Computer Center supported system, you can just type ctime to start it. If you do not have a CUE linux system, you can download the client from here and install it yourself. Initial configuration steps are the same as for the Windows client above.
Solaris (SUN)
The Solaris client is also called 'ctime'. Type ctime to start it. Initial configuration steps are the same as for the Windows client above.
Macintosh
The Macintosh client can be downloaded from here. Initial configuration steps are the same as for the Windows client above.
We also have the Corporate Sync for Palm Pilots available for Macs. The computer center offers no support for configuration or use, but users may download it from here themselves.
