Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 Installation
Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 Installation
This handout will walk you through the installation of Adobe Acrobat
Reader 4.0. Adobe Acrobat Reader is software designed to read documents created
in Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (*.pdf).
Before you begin:
- This document assumes that your machine is a part of CUE (Common
User Environment). If your Windows PC is not a member of CUE,
instructions are provided here: Configuring
Windows NT for CUE and Configuring Windows 2000
for CUE .
- You will need to uninstall any prior version of Adobe Acrobat Reader
before you begin installation of version 4.0.
- It is recommended that you print out these instructions before you
begin.
Uninstallation of Acrobat Reader :
- Click on the Start menu, then select Settings, and
click on Control Panel.
- Now double-click on Add/Remove Programs. Find Adobe
Acrobat 3.x and click the Add/Remove button. If you only see Adobe
Acrobat 4.0 listed, then it is already installed on your computer. You do
not need to proceed any farther. Similarly, if you do not see any version
of Acrobat Reader listed, you can skip to the section titled "Installing
Adobe Acrobat 4.0."
- You will now be asked to confirm the uninstallation of Acrobat
Reader. Click Yes.
- You will see an unstillation program run in order to remove Acrobat
Reader from your computer. Occasionally, you will get a message about a
shared *.dll file. If the message appears, click the Yes To All
button.
- A message will appear asking you to confirm your action. Click
Yes to continue.
- After uninstallation you will need to click the OK button to
continue. Occasionally there will be an error during installation.
If this occurs, you will need to send an e-mail to
{helpdesk@jlab.org}.
- Now you will be returned to the Add/Remove Programs
menu. Click OK to continue.
- Finally, you will be returned to the Control Panel
window. Click on the "X" in the upper-right corner of the window
to close it. Now you are ready to install Acrobat Reader 4.0.
Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 :
- First, you will need to click on the Start menu, then select
Jlab - Cue, Client Installed Programs, and click on Acrobat
Reader 4.0 Setup.
- After the the program extracts, you will see a Welcoming
screen. Click Next to continue.
- The licensing agreement will now appear, click Accept to
accept the agreement.
- The following screen will ask you where you would like to install
Acrobat Reader. The default folder is ok, but if you would like to change
it, Click Browse. Otherwise, Click Next to install Acrobat
Reader.
- After Acrobat Reader has finished installing, adobe will display a
"Thank You" message. Click OK to complete the installation
process.
- Now you will be returned back to your desktop and a shortcut for
Adobe Acrobat will now be displayed.
