Configuring Windows for CUE

This document describes how to set up the software components of the network configuration for a PC running Windows. The Computer Center supports Windows NT platform (4.0, 2000 XP Professional and Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate) as part of the Jefferson Lab Common User Environment (CUE). This handout can serve as a guide to help you configure your Windows operating system with a standard network configuration that works at Jefferson Lab.

What you need to do first:

Before starting, check that you have taken care of the following items:

  1. Check the hardware configuration of your PC: Your PC must be equipped with an Ethernet board in order to configure for CUE.
  2. Get an IP address and Internet name for your PC by using reggie.jlab.org
  3. If you are using an existing hostname and IP address, you should contact the Help Desk (helpdesk@jlab.org or x7155) to have the existing machine account information removed before you attempt to join the JLab domain.
  4. Have a valid User name and Password for CUE. 
  5. Watch the video demonstration below for more information. The video below is of a system installed with Windows Vista but it can still be used as a template for joining the domain in Windows XP
