Making JLAB\user to be an Administrator on Windows 2000/XP Professional Systems

During the initial process of configuring your Windows 2000/XP systems, you'll act as a local administrator. Privileges associated with an administrative rights allow the local administrator to install software/hardware and configure their workstation to their personal preference. Once the system has joined the JLAB domain, local administrative rights for the user's JLAB account must be established. This document demonstrates the necessary steps.

1. Logon to the workstation as Administrator after joining the domain. Open the Control Panel by selecting Start, Settings, Control Panel. Select the Users and Passwords icon. The Users and Passwords window opens. Select the Advanced tab.

2. Under Advanced User Management, select the Advanced radio button. The Local Users and Groups window opens.

3. Double click Group to list all local groups on your machine. Under the Name field, double click Administrators. It will list all administrators on your machine. Do NOT delete any users. Click Add...

4. In the Select Users or Group window, click the arrow at the right end of the Look in: window and select JLAB. It will ask your user name and password. type jlab\username and password (see following picture).

5. Search the list of names for your user name. High light your name and click Add, then OK.

6. Log out of the local domain, then log back in to the JLAB domain with your user name and password.
