Machines for general purpose daily use are named JLABxn, where x is a letter denoting the system type, and n is a number starting with 1:
x = H Hewlett Packard HP-UX
x = S SUN Solaris
x = L Linux
Any user may login to these machines. The JLAB machines are not intended for large or long-running scientific applications. For that purpose, we have the interactive and batch farm machines. See the Scientifc Computing Unix Systems page for details about these machines.
If you are not sure which machine best suits your needs, send a message to helpdesk@jlab.org to have your questions directed to the correct staff member.
