Nifty SSH Installation and Configuration for the Mac

There is now a SSH (Secure Shell) application available for Macintosh users from the Computer Center named Nifty SSH. Nifty SSH is a secure replacement for PacerTerm. Nifty SSH provides encrypted network connections for passwords, as well as any transmitted data. For more information on SSH please see the Computer Center Newsletter from March 2000. All Macintosh users should discontinue using PacerTerm and install and replace it with Nifty SSH.

To Install Nifty SSH:

  1. Go to Chooser, under CEBAF Ethernet of AppleShare, select JLAB Fileserver. Login using your CUE user name and password.
  2. Select Mac Applications. There you will find the MACDIST folder.
  3. Copy the NIFTY SSH folder into your hard drive and click the 'NIFTY SSH' program to make a new connection or simply run DB1 or JLABS1 icon.
