F-Secure Installation and Configuration for the Mac
Installation
Locate the installation files for F-Secure SSH as follows:
Open the Apple menu.
Select Chooser.
Select CEBAF Ethernet, Appleshare, then JLAB Fileserver.
Login to the JLAB Fileserver with your Unix (e-mail, db1, etc)
username and password.
From the list of directories available, select Mac Applications
Close the Chooser window and open the 'new' Mac Applications folder
on your desktop.
Open the MacDist folder, then the F-Secure SSH folder.
Start the Setup application by double-clicking the F-Secure SSH
Installation icon and follow these instructions:
A new window, titled F-Secure SSH for Macintosh 1.0.1 will open;
click the Continue button.
Review the Read Me file for potential problems with your specific
machine.
Select Easy Install and the drive to which you wish to install the
program, click the Install button.
You'll be prompted to answer "Do you want F-Secure SSH to be able to
run on all Macintosh computers?" Answer Yes.
The next pop-up message tells you that installation is complete.
Close your connection to MacDist.
Configuration
Locate the F-Secure SSH folder on your hard drive and open it and follow
the instructions below:.
Click the F-Secure SSH icon. It may take a few moments to start the
program the first time.
Follow the on screen instructions regarding the random number
generator - continually move your mouse in this window until the Random Number
Generator (RNG) reaches 100% and the window disappears.
F-Secure SSH opens with an untitled, unconnected window.
From the menu, select File, Connect.
Select Connection Properties.
Select the Connection tab within the Properties window.
Check the Forward X11 box.
In the Host Name field, enter db1.jlab.org (or the name of any other
targeted server.)
User Name field: use churchill rather than Winston Churchill
Password field: use your unix password
Click the OK button.
The first time you connect to a server, you'll get a pop-up window
titled New Host Key. The notice reads: F-Secure SSH received a previously
unknown host key from server: Host Name: db1.jlab.org. You are offered the
choice of buttons reading Accept Once, Accept & Save, Cancel or Help. Click
Accept & Save.
The Untitled window will display a db1> prompt (or the prompt on
your target server).
From the menu, select File, Save Settings As
Name the settings file for the server you connect to most often
(e.g., db1). You may save this shortcut to the F-Secure SSH folder, to your
desktop, or to your Apple menu.
Keyboard Settings
Currently the Computer Center is working on a solution for keyboard
mapping to be used with the MIS JLAB applications REQS and ETR.
